Gaellen on WBEX – Ohio

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

My first interview from the islands was with Dan Ramsey of WBEX 1490AM in Chillicothe, Ohio. (The same day he also interviewed mega-selling author, David Baldacci — so I guess I’m in good company!)

(And, for the time being, you can also download the interview here as a podcast.)
You can tell Dan was under the spell of Hawaii. He said he wished he was doing the interview from my living room…I can understand that. Out my window from the island of Molokai, I see coconut trees and the islands of Maui and Lanai in the distance.

(Wait ’til I tell you what I saw in the coconut trees a couple days ago. Watch for some pics coming soon…)
Here’s a little map of the islands, in case you’re not familiar with Molokai. Click the picture to enlarge.

Gaellen Quinn on Indie 103.1 with Q’Orianka Kilcher

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

The Last Aloha will be in stores and on Amazon.com in mid-May.

Here is an interview I did on Indie 103.1 in Los Angeles (rated by Rolling Stone Magazine as the best radio station in the country and hosted by the fabulous DJ, Trina Quinn — OK, she’s my daughter, but she’s still fabulous). With me, is Q’Orianka Kilcher, who stars in the Princess Ka’iulani movie to be released this year. (She also starred as Pocahontas in Terrence Malik’s, The New World, with Colin Ferrell.)

Check out the trailer for the Princess Ka’iulani movie :

Q’Orianka’s film is set in the same time period as my novel — the late 19th century during the time of the overthrow of the royal Hawaiians by American missionary descendents. Neither I, nor to my knowledge, the filmmakers, had a plan for our creative efforts to see the light this year — the 50th anniversary of Hawaii’s statehood!
